Riverwoods is a small scenic town located at Deerfield Road between Illinois Route 21 and Interstate 94. Covering only four square miles, Riverwoods has been named a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor its commitment to community forestry. It is the fourth year Riverwoods has received this national recognition. Incorporated in 1959, Riverwoods is the home of major employers including Commerce Clearing House and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. Four elementary school districts and two high school districts serve the students of Riverwoods.

Riverwoods residents can take advantage of the neighboring park district facilities that include a community center, parks and playgrounds, two swimming pools, tennis courts, and an 18-hole golf course. They can also visit the Riverwoods Wildlife Preserve and Ryerson Conservation area, or enjoy a day at Six Flags Great America, located about 20 miles away in north suburban Gurnee.
