Mostly residential, Morton Grove has significant commercial, retail and industrial areas. In the opinion of many, it is the perfect place to live and work. With many large corporations, many residents of Morton Grove do just that to avoid the commute into downtown Chicago. Additionally, approximately 20% of the land in Morton Grove is owned by the Cook County Forest Preserve District and is set aside for open space and recreational facilities to serve the community. Morton Grove became the first town in America to prohibit the possession of handguns.

The downtown district is populated with restaurants, pubs and shopping malls. Sidewalk cafes and boutiques can be found throughout the village as well. Northwestern, DePaul and Loyola University of Chicago call Morton Grove home.

Attractions:
Morton Grove is a Mecca for ethnic grocers, adding flavor to their annual festivals. The Chick Evans Golf Course, considered to be one of the top public courses in the country is in Morton Grove. The biggest attraction of Morton Grove is its location to Lake Michigan, being only a short 10-minute drive. Morton Grove also has a growing retail shop area and its favorite summer event, Morton Grove Days.

Interestingly, Morton Grove seems to be a town of firsts. In 1981 they became the first community in the country to ban the sale and possession of handguns. Morton Grove was the first in the country to be wired for cable television; and the first to train and employ paramedics as a part the Fire Department. Another interesting thing about Morton Grove is its close proximity to Wrigley Field. Go Cubs!
