Glenview is approximately 13 square miles, a seemingly small place with a big history. Incorporated in 1899, Glenview was basically farmland with a 82 acre grove boasting 134 varieties of apples. The Glenview Naval Air Base, closed in 1995, and developers turned the site into a mixed residential and retail area, known as the Glen.

The public education system in Glenview is considered one of the best in the nation. Education is very well funded in Glenview due to a combination of high property values and the relatively large number of businesses located in Glenview.

Attractions:
Glenview boasts a revolutionary project with the construction of The Glen. The Glen is a 1,121 acre urban development built on the former site of the Glenview Naval Air Station in the downtown area. The Glen consists of upscale shops like Von Maur and Ann Taylor Loft, entertainment facilities, a post office, approximately 1,500 new residences and business offices. This perfectly-planned town has the feel of a small European city. There are apartments above the quaint shops and restaurants that line the streets.

Glenview is proud to be the home of Air Station Prairie, a 32-acre preservations site for prairie vegetation, including two Illinois state-endangered plant species. The centerpiece of the community, the 140 acre Gallery Park features 45 acre Lake Glenview offering a fishing pier, 5 miles of walking and biking trails, an amphitheatre, boardwalk, playgrounds and athletic fields. The Evelyn P. Tyner Interpretive Center and parking garden opened on April 14, 2007.
